Mr. Biddle, the special adviser of the Helicopter Association International (HAI), made such a question in Shanghai International Helicopter Development Conference the day before yesterday. The conference was held in Shanghai International Convention Center, on the subject of The Helicopter Industry and Urban Modernization. It was the first time for Mr. Biddle to visit Shanghai and also China. He is deeply impressed by the energetic modern Shanghai. But when he looks at the sky as usual, he can hardly find sth familiar to him-the helicopters. According to the official of Shanghai Develop and Reform Committee presenting to the conference, Shanghai has already had over 4000 high-rise buildings, of which 200 are more than 100 meter high, and there will be another 2000 in the near future. Unfortunately, the basic helicopter service system has not been set up yet. "Better City, Better Life, the theme of the Shanghai World Expo 2010, may provide a good opportunity to introduce more helicopters to the sky of Shanghai, "said one of the participants. As Shanghai is getting more modernized day by day, the important role that helicopter can play is becoming more obvious. Helicopter will show its advantages in many fields, such as highway accident rescue, super high-rise building fire--fighting, emergency medical service and city traveling. Ministry of Transportation & Communications has settled down some helicopters in Shanghai for rescue. They have completed several missions on maritime rescue. Over 20 high-rise buildings have heliport on their roofs. The futrure Shanghai Fire --fighting Center Mansion also will have a heliport. All of these show that the helicopter service system in Shanghai has been started. But the development is too slow. China is considered the biggest virgin market of helicopter business. It is expected that in the next 20 years, the number of civilian helicopter demanded will increase to 60,000. That means $100 billion. China World Helicopter Association (CWHA) under formation will lie in Shanghai. HAI Annual Meeting 2004 will also be held in this city. Shanghai World Expo 2010 will surely make a good platform for the development of helicopter industry. [From "Shanghai EXPO Information Network News" OCT/16/2003] Get a bird's view of World Expo 2010 This morning, Shanghai International Helicopter Development Conference was held in Shanghai International Convention Center. The top 50 international helicopter enterprises, members of Helicopter Association International (HAI) and relevant government departments took parts in the conference. The subject of the conference is The Helicopter Industry and Urban Modernization. The issues discussed were about how to build up a platform for helicopter industry, how to introduce the international standard system, concepts, technology, human resource and capital to China, and how to unite all strengths to promote the further development of helicopter industry in China. Mr. Luo Youzhen, the representative of the conference host, said the newspaper that helicopter would have more influences in the city's development. Helicopter has its own advantages in many fields. Especially, it is the only way to complete the high-rise building rescue and fire-fighting. Mr. Huang Yaocheng, Vice Chairman of World Expo 2010 Bureau, attended the conference and made a speech. He said, Helicopter is the symbol of a modern city. The venues for World Expo 2010 will cover 4 square meters totally. 400,000 people will be traveling on the ground each day then. Helicopter will surely be useful at that time. Shanghai World Expo 2010 may provide a good opportunity to introduce more helicopters to the sky of Shanghai. [From "JFDAILY " OCT/16/2003] The demand for civilian helicopters will be over 1000 in the next 10 years Helicopter is making more and more effects on Chinese people. Today, in Mainland China, over 70 civilian helicopters are on service. The demand for the demand for civilian helicopters will be over 1000 in the next 10 years. The huge market in China has inspiring the Top 50 international helicopter enterprises, which sent there delegations to Shanghai International Helicopter Development Conference yesterday. Shanghai has already had over 4000 high-rise buildings, of which 200 are more than 100 meter high, and there will be another 2000 in the near future. Facing challenges, both high-rise building fire-fighting and emergency medical service are calling for the establishment of helicopter service system. But at present the threshold of having civilian helicopters is still too high. It is expected that Beijing Olympic Games 2008 and Shanghai World Expo 2010 may provide a good opportunity to introduce more helicopters to the sky of Shanghai. Some foreign helicopter manufacturers can't help making their headways in the market of China. A Sino-American joint venture helicopter company has been set up in Shanghai, and it has finished its first helicopter sample. Some other are trying to establish Chinese first platform for the helicopter business in Shanghai. [From "TAKUNGPAO " OCT/16/2003] Having more than 4000 high-rise buildings in the city and 6000 fire cases every year, Shanghai needs the help of helicopter in fire-fighting "Shanghai needs to follow the HAI to push the movement of helicopter industry as soon as possible," said Mr. Roy Resavage, Chairman of the Helicopter International Association (HIA), on Oct. 14. Shanghai has already had over 4000 high-rise buildings, of which 200 are more than 100 meter high, and there will be another 2000 in the near future. But there are no helicopters for fire-fighting. Mr. Xie Fugen, the Senior Engineer of Shanghai fire-fighting Bureau, told the newspaper that Shanghai fire-fighting Bureau once sent a team to study the experiences of other countries in using helicopter. But the team report did not make any move. Such cases happened in other government departments, too. World Expo 2010 is going to be held in Shanghai. $3 billion will be invested into building venues. 70 million people are expected to be present then. "The development of helicopter industry should be connected with World Expo 2010, for it has become one part of the development of this city," said Mr. Huang Yaocheng, Vice Chairman of World Expo 2010 Bureau. Along with development of the city, helicopter is having more and more influences in the city's development. It has its own advantages in many fields. Especially in high-rise building rescue and fire-fighting, as helicopter is the only way to complete the missions. How can Shanghai become a real modern city without helicopter? It is not easy to promote the helicopter industry in Shanghai. There are many obstructions in peoples minds. Is it really useful? How to find enough money, pilots and maintainers? How to manage the take-off time? Will the residents object to the project of developing Shanghai's helicopter service system? A series of problems lie in front of the government. 62 participants from the United States, Japan, Germany, Canada, Russia, France, South Africa with Hong Kong, and Taiwanese regions joined together in Shanghai for first time and attended the Shanghai International Helicopter Development Conference. At the conference all participants called for the establishment of helicopter service system for the Great Shanghai. According to the host, the China World Helicopter Association (CWHA) under formation plans to settle its Asia-Pacific Center in Shanghai. A national project on establishing fire-fighting and rescue system in the Yangtz RiverDelta is undertaking with the support of Tongji University. The Helicopter Association International (HAI) has planed to hold its Annual Meeting in Shanghai next year. Mr. Pu Zaiming, the official of Shanghai Develop and Reform Committee presenting to the conference, expressed that all participants will be welcome to come to Shanghai by helicopter then. |
